For returning choristers, no assessment is required, please click HERE to register!
Our YVT community includes over 100 choristers across five different ensembles who range in age from 4-18 years. If your child loves to sing and explore, be creative and expressive, plus love learning musical skills and want to make lifelong friends…. we would love them to JOIN US!
During our 2020/21 season we will continue to offer our high quality choral music program. In the Fall, musical education programs offered by public and independent schools are at risk of being severely scaled-back due to covid related changes in the classrooms. We, like many of you, believe that musical education is critical to a child’s development. We will be there to fill this gap!
What To Expect at Your Vocal Assessment?
Vocal assessments are brief, relaxed and give the conductors the opportunity to determine the best ensemble for each young singer. Our goal is to ensure that all singers are placed in the ensemble that they will feel most comfortable in – that will provide them with the most fitting musical and social experience.
Singers should come prepared to:
Sing a brief song of their choice (it could be something simple, like O Canada or Twinkle Twinkle – or anything they feel comfortable with or would show their personality!)
Listen and sing-back simple melodies or rhythms
Explore their voice – singing both high and low to determine their range
Sight-read melodies with solfege or rhythms (older or more experienced singers only!)
Chat a little with the conductor about their musical experience, why they’d like to join YVT, tell about their interests outside of music
Currently, all vocal assessments will be held via Zoom until further notice. There is a $20 vocal assessment fee per singer. Results will be communicated to every applicant post-audition, upon review by the Artistic Director and Artistic Team.
